Mixer Magic Firsthand
As a part of the LoveWorthy team, I was one of the first to arrive at Paper Tiger Bar, which was conveniently located in K-town. On the 20 minute ride over, I thought about how it was centrally located for almost anyone who attended and it’s little details like such that matter for those of us who are already anxious about just getting out of the house to put ourselves out there. Immediately upon entering, LoveWorthy’s founder and CEO Eve Marlowe greeted me with a warm hug and I immediately saw the signature step and repeat which made me feel like a celebrity at a red-carpet event! I have hosted my fair share of red carpets so I know firsthand how exciting and fun these can be for guests. Solid start.
The drinks were handcrafted but reasonably priced, which was nice because I wanted to be able to buy my own (at least early on in the evening). With only a few of us there to start, I found myself being chatted up by an interesting and successful guy, giving me a feeling of promise of the caliber of the attendees. But it wasn’t long before not one but two rooms were filled with intriguing guests! I took instant note of a very fair ratio between genders – another checkbox on the list of important singles mixer qualities. A tarot card reader was available for readings, which I found to be a super unique and refreshing way to spark some conversations.
Fear, the Paper Tiger
In paying true homage to the namesake of the venue, it was then time to face the paper tiger of fear in the name of Love. We were all called to one room where we participated in some ice breakers. Behind the DJ booth was an LED fixture with the LoveWorthy logo that gave the whole vibe an extra special touch. After rounding us up, Eve led us through a few rounds of icebreakers. Short and sweet, these prompts still were rousing with just the right dose of intimacy, and it was at this stage that a lot of individuals began to pair off for their getting-to-know-you conversations, including myself, which came as quite a shock!
